Sunday, 4 March 07 :: free food x funky street names.

i just realized that if i play my cards right tomorrow i'll get both breakfast and lunch for free. yeah, at first i didn't buy into this whole 'free food' thing, but since we've been having department head and professor candidates coming through (tommorrow will be our 7th), i've been enjoying the free lunches they've been treating us too. tommorrow i'm having breakfast with our last department head candidate, on campus in a place that serves food all day. through a friend i found out that once you pay to enter, if you don't leave you can just continue to eat. the same friend told me he sits and writes in there all day long. i think i'll do the same thing tommorrow, or at least try too if it seems kosher to stay as the others are getting up to leave.

i know, i know.. is this blog worthy? oh crap, i don't care.

btw, for those of you not familiar with utah addresses (auntie sdr) --> here's a good article about the coordinate system here. an address 235 North (or N) 200 West (or W) in Salt Lake City would be 2 blocks West and 2 blocks North of the Salt Lake Temple (Mormon). Even more specifically the address is between the 200 and 300 North block of the street 200 West. Here in Logan the 0,0 (Main, Center) is at the Tabernacle, not the Logan Temple. Oh and if you here someone refer 2nd W or 14th N -- they mean 200 West or 1400 North. So, really, the proper Utahan way to say 235 North 200 West would be 235 N 2nd W.

i'm brooke, born in '73. i am currently a phd student in instructional technology. this is the blog where i capture all the neurotic, and the few non-neurotic, moments that seem to come with being a phd student (if you want to read less neuroses and more professionalism go to: oer's, dl's, reuse and culture: it's about a phd student researching digital resources in a multicultural world). i have been from eugene, oregon for a long time.. 8 years specifically (its my home now, but i grew up in southwestern virginia), but now i'm here in logan, utah at utah state university. after finding my roots in eugene i never could have expected that i would leave that liberal oasis and head to utah. but i did and there are days when its a blessing and days when i'm tempted to go back to oregon and beg the folks at lost valley educational center to let me move in. but i won't leave because there are days when this process is better than any kind of high i could ever imagine. what else? i collect things, i have 2 cats, 2 kayaks, 2 laptops (i'm a geek - one mac, one pc). i can be emailed at brookesblog@rivervision.com.
