another one on the march.

i was watching NOW will bill moyers tonight. he did a great piece on the march for women's lives (is that the official title?). it was all about the religous women who marched in the march, who are working to keep our bodies our own.

it was a wonderful piece. it highlighted something that the mainstream press isn't highlighting-- those spiritual people, of all spirits and religons, who believe in choice. the mainstream press makes it sound as if the only religous voice is the one who believes our bodies are their bodies.

i know that everyone who went had a personal reason as to why they went, and each and every one of us who works for choice, or who believes in choice, or who speaks out in our weblogs for choice has a personal reason, each one as important and valuable as the other.

i want to mention one voice that struck me. i was reading uncommon misconception the other day. i knew she had gone to the march, and i had read about her son, but some how i didn't connect the two.

read the entry. what she writes about, the excitement of the march, the people, but most of all being able to choose to not let her child suffer, having that right as a parent.. its not inspiring.. i can't seem to find the right word.. courageous. a parent who chooses her suffering over her child's, its a selfless act.

i know that there are so many selfless acts involved in parenting, this one though, strikes me. not that one act is better than another.. but her act was one that takes parenting to a level that most parents never have to face, that i hope no parent ever has to face (though i know they will).

allowing her to have that choice allowed her to act from the deepest levels of her love for her child (at least thats how *i* interpret it). it is truly a heartening thing.

thank you julia for sharing, for going, for being a voice amongst many.
