A friend has been assaulted

When friends or loved ones have been assaulted by a stranger or acquaintence they will be coming to you for support, a caring attitude, and someone to listen to them. If the assault has just happened encourage your friend or loved one to seek help- through law enforcment, a local rape crisis line, or the emergency room. If the assault is a part of your friend or loved one's past listen to them, and if they haven't recieved counseling about it, mention to them that they might want to consider it.

Also, take the following points into account:

  • listen to them and offer them support

  • believe your friend

  • let them know that what has happened is NOT their fault

  • put aside your feelings and deal with them elsewhere

  • respect their privacy

  • accept their choice of solution to the assault

  • be dependable and attainable when they need you

  • be patient
