on multnomah county..

a federal judge had ruled that all gay marriage licenses issued by multnomah county, oregon, must be recognized by the state.

BUT

he also ordered that multnomah county stop issue same-gendered marriage licenses because though same-gendered couples should get all protections guaranteed under marriage they should not be given the right to marry.

AND

multnomah county has to stop issuing marriage licenses immediately.

now, i realize that the fact that oregon must recognize the marriages already issued is great.. but to call this a victory??

jeez. these days i'm constantly dissapointed with the queer movement. selling out at every point. so fucking connected to the aclu.. a group that does good work, but i have discovered is not necessarily about making waves but instead about getting victories.

and mainstream. mainstream as hell. when the president of the united states is denouncing a community as much as this president is, along with congress sitting on their scared little asses, along with my own lane county commissioners doing the same thing (my apologies to pete sorenson) means that we are not mainstream. i'm sorry.. but when are still being killed, when our publications are still coming in brown paper wrappers, when we are still closeted in so many ways this means we are not mainstream.. yes, even in light of the wild success of will and grace.. because portraying stereotypes only gives into society's view of who we are.. and then of course denouncing those stereotypes denies who we are too, because there are queers who very much identify with the show.

*sigh*

i have become to radical i fear.. either that or way to out of touch from the queer movement.
