.. a thought to share with everyone..

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so
certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts."
--Bertrand Russell

btw.. we are now up 53/47 in the votes.. w/ 96% reporting ..

.. measure 9 was called yesterday.. with 93% of the ballots counted our lead had stretched to 52% no 48% yes. i was at an "after measure 9" gathering put on by the wonderful religious response network-- the rrn was a group of people from different faiths around lane county who came together to fight measure 9-- when we found out. like the interfaith service that the rrn put on, i won't forget this gathering. anyhow.. lon mabon (the one who needs to go back into his cave and stay there) was admitting defeat and our campaign manager was calling it for us...

but.. even though we've won this battle.. 48% of oregonians still voted for it. the feeling with the group gathered last night was that we won this, but there is still a whole lot of work to do. no, we are not done.. the old cliche-- we've won the battle, but not the war seems quite appropriate here.

..well.. its the day after election day.. things are still up in the air.. *argh* though i'm pretty sure that gore hasn't won the electoral college (and thusly the presidency) but i'm quite confident that he's won the popular vote.. (and thusly, *not* the presidency).. i'm not sure exactly how fair that is.. my thought is that if this were the case in a country that the usa bullies, and the person who won the electoral college was someone we *didn't* like, but the person who won the popular vote was someone we did, we'd be raising some hell.. anyhow.. i can say that i'm not happy about this at all.. but i can say, that if it were the other way around, with bush being the popular winner and gore being the electoral winner, i'd feel quite uneasy.. a president needs the popular vote.

measure 9, as of 8.56 this morning, is still waaay to close to call. 51% no, 49% yes, with 81% of precints reporting in. lets hope this stays this way. vicki walker, as of 8.06 this morning, was ahead by 2% points.. YEAH! and phil barnhart has won too.. YEAH again. michael glownia won't win, but he'll be poised for the next mayoral campaign. robb has lost in virginia, but hillary clinton has won in ny.. and a dead democrat beat an alive republican in missouri.. LOL!

to maine, nevada and nebraska.. i send my heart out too you. the glbtq movement didn't win anything in any of those states.. and in fact lost something in nevada and nebraska. it makes me angry.. not sure if there is anything i can do about it though.

now, its off to work with me.. i've got to get some done. not sure how easy of a task this is going to be..

..lets see.. welcome to brooke's blog. its my first entry.. and lets hope i keep this up. it'd get awfully boring if i didn't, now wouldn't it..

its election day.. thank the goddess! i've been involved with my first political campaign, ever. the NO on 9 campaign. needless to say i've been quite busy and both my beloved truck and i have both gotten sick twice during this campaign. agh. you know, its a lot cheaper to heal from a cold than it is from a busted alternator and a crapped out clutch. i hope to pick up my beloved truck today.

lets hope when i wake up that lon mabon has accepted defeat and has decided to crawl back in his cave and STAY THERE forever. for more information on the beliefs of this man, check out: www.oregoncitizensalliance.org.. need i say more?

i'm looking forward to going back to my normal, somewhat depressing life, starting next week. though, this time i'll add to my life more involvement with the community. hopefully i'll get involved with the local glsen (gay, lesbian, straight education network) chapter... i've already signed up to work with the equality project here in town.. my first task will be redoing the website... and i'll also do some stuff with the local pflag chapter.. and of course, there is also soromundi-- lesbian chorus of eugene.. now, if i'm involved with all that and my life doesn't pick up in some way, i'm obviously doing something wrong.

i think thats it.. hopefully tommorrow i'll post post-election day results. hopefully i'll be able to say that measure 9 was SOUNDLY defeated.. that gore won the presidency, that vicki walker re-became my oregon state house of rep person, that michael glownia is mayor of eugene (a wiccan as mayor!!), and that charles robb is still senator from va. lets cross our fingers..
